Our NEW Book Bins

Our class was so excited and THANKFUL when we received our new book bins via special delivery.  Thank you, Mrs. Gordinier and Mrs. Mansour for helping out in the purchase of them.  We are being very responsible readers and making sure to carry our new bins with two hands.  Thank you so much for the WONDERFUL donation.  It makes all the difference in the world!

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Hooray!  It's the start of the 2012-2013 school year.  I've been working really hard to get our classroom organized, neat, and beautiful for the start of the year.  Here is just a small glimpse of where all our learning will take place this year.

Welcome to 2nd Grade!!!

Look Who Popped into 2nd Grade!

Here's our easel....this is where we meet for class meeting, stories, and lots of learning.

Here is our classroom library.  We have so many books to choose from when we read during reading workshop.  Our library is sorted into fiction and non-fiction.  The non-fiction labels are yellow and the fiction are blue.  Some bins have green labels and there are both fiction and non-fiction books in these bins (because yellow and blue make green).  We have a chapter book shelf and a favorite authors shelf.  We work really hard on keeping our library organized and neat.  It takes a lot of effort.

We meet for calendar every morning after our welcome work and before our class meeting.  Here we sing, count and write money amounts, record weather and temperatures, and tell time.  I think that participating in calendar reinforces many basic math skills on a daily basis.

Here are our writing and math areas.  There will soon be vocabulary words up on our wall!  We keep all of our writing paper, pens, tool boxes, dictionaries, thesauruses, etc on our writing shelf.  In our math area we keep our math fact cards, manipulatives, and number scrolls.

We check in every morning and report what we are having for lunch.

We keep our social studies folder, spelling notebook, math notebook, and math journal in our cubbie.

Many supplies to help us learn!

Every 2nd grader has a personal book bin.  In here, just right books are kept for a week.  Students have an assigned shopping day where books are returned to the classroom library and exchanged for new books.  During reading workshop readers take their book bin to their assigned reading spot and read uninterrupted.

Our mailboxes hold important notes and homework that go home on a daily basis.
